Identify
10 – 12mm long.
Silver and/or grey in colour.
Has no wings.
Pronged tail at the end of the flattened elongated body.
Life Cycle & Habitat
Females deposits their eggs into crevices or cracks, or under the edges of paper.
Two to twenty eggs are laid per lot.
Freshly laid eggs are smooth and cream-coloured.
How to Spot Silverfish
Silverfish feeds off of fabrics such as clothing items and stored linen.
Thatch roofs are a common nesting ground for silverfish where they will breed and spread to the rest of the building.
After three days freshly laid eggs turns yellow and exhibits shallow reticulate markings.
